This weeks PN Featured Artist is the multi-talented Edgar Recinos. He creates artwork inspired by things like Nintendo, ‘Marvel vs Capcom’, Pokémon, Final Fantasy and tons more. He recently did some voice acting for an Android App game called “Mother of Myth” along with some promos and anime in the past. So If you or anyone you know is looking for a voice actor to audition for an upcoming project, he would be happy to oblige. He also takes commissions so you can order original custom pieces of artwork. I’ll post the link to his blog at the bottom of the interview where you can find all of his contact information, enjoy!

KD: How long have you been an illustrator?

ER: Too long it seems. I’ve been drawing since I can remember no thanks to my talented dad, Nelson Recinos, who’s worked in the animation biz on shows like Pinky & the Brain, CatDog, and Baby Looney Tunes. He never pushed me into drawing, it just sorta happened and I kept going since then.

KD: I didn’t know that, awesome! I loved those cartoons, Its obviously in your DNA :) What program do you use to create your artwork, or what is your favorite program that you use when making digital art?

ER: I mainly use Photoshop to create most of my art. I occasionally dabble in Illustrator or Flash, but I personally find Photoshop more intuitive.

KD: What different art collaborations have you been involved in? I seen quite a few on your blog.

ER: Haha, they can be hard to resist. I hosted a Final Fantasy Collab which went really well spanning over 200 drawings from various amazing artists, including PNM’s very own Thomas Jones! Other collabs I’ve joined involved the Super Mario series, Katamari Damacy, Super Smash Bros., Mother 3, Pokemon, and WarioWare just to name a few. I’m currently hosting a Marvel vs Capcom Series Collab by the way if anyone’s interested in joining.

KD: Whats your favorite piece you’ve ever drawn?

ER: Ooh, that’s a toughy. I really enjoy learning from each art piece I create, but if I had to pick out the one that’s been the most fun to draw, it’s gotta be “Super Kawaii Princess Bowserchan and Chibi Bowser Jr.” That idea seriously came outta nowhere and I had no choice but to scribble it onto digital paper, lol. Dude can totally work that sailor gear!

KD: Do video games inspire you a lot when drawing? Whats your favorite Nintendo game to draw from?

ER: Absolutely! I get a lot of character design and story ideas that stem from games I obsessed over growing up. There’s just something about gaming that inspires out of the box thinking compared to other media. Final Fantasy is probably my biggest influence when it comes to plotting out new ideas. My favorite Nintendo game to draw from has gotta be Pokemon. I love practicing on all the unique critter designs just for fun. I think it’s safe to say there’ll be plenty more new Pokemon designs to look forward to doodling for years to come!

KD: You mentioned doing some voice acting in one of your recent blog posts, that must have been fun. Is that something your interested in doing as a career? Or are you more interested in doing illustrations?

ER: Thanks, it’s a lot of fun when I can book for it. I’ve been fortunate to land some cool gigs here and there like the smug villain Giovanni for the Mother of Myth app game. It’s a really competitive business, having to audition against the likes of Charles Martinet, Troy Baker, and Rob Paulsen, so voice over work has been sporadic. I’d love to do voice over as a career, but if life leads me more towards illustration, that’s fine, too. I’m kinda at a point where anything that pays is good. But I guess what I’d really love to do when I grow up is produce my own content (comics, merchandise, etc.) and hopefully make a living off that. I know, I know, “get in line,” but it’s worth a shot.
