Wondering what the Pure Nintendo team has been playing lately? Out latest playlist is here to show you all the must-play games available now. Whether you’re looking for something strategic, a puzzle-based adventure, or RPG goodness, there’s bound to be something for everyone on our playlist.
Super Mario RPG is a recent release from Nintendo that pits Mario and Bowser against a common foe. We loved this remake in our Super Mario RPG review, and it’s no wonder it’s still on our playlist. The only question is: where will this end up on our game-of-the-year list?
Pikmin 4 is another big first-party release from 2023, and we’ve been pestering Trev to play it for months. He finally got his hands on it, and by all accounts it sounds as though he’s enjoying it as much as the rest of us.
Whether it’s first-party, sports, or mobile, we’re playing it all. Check out our playlist below and let us know what you’re playing at the moment.
Kirstie
- The Pale Beyond (Switch) – I’m really enjoying this survival role-playing game that casts you as the reluctant captain of a ship navigating dangerously icy waters. The characters are incredibly well written, giving the game a very real sense of danger and a lot of emotional weight. Unfortunately, the devs are currently working on a patch to stop my Switch version crashing, but they have been good at communicating about the issue and kindly offered me a Steam key to finish up the story.
Trev
- Pikmin 4 (Switch) – I couldn’t grab this one at launch, but I aimed to address that before the new year. It’s a great game, propelling itself into my top 5 for 2023! The only downside is that it’s distracted my attention from some review games.
- Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (DS) – Given the long wait for the new Switch entry, I need something to tide me over. After replaying Curious Village, this became the natural follow-up—a fun way to give my Switch a break.

- Born Of Bread (Switch) – I started playing this for a review and have fallen in love with it. It’s similar to Paper Mario 64, which is my all-time favorite game. Born Of Bread gives me that nostalgic feeling all the while being unique and charming in its own ways.
- Super Mario RPG (Switch) – I’m still working my way through this remake. The music is still amazing, the character sprites are adorable, and I’m enjoying all the small updates they’ve made to the game.

- EA Sport FC 24 (Switch) – I’m reviewing this big sports title, which comes packed with plenty of content for soccer fans. The realistic action features real-life players and teams from across the world. Watch for my upcoming review!
- Mario Kart Tour (mobile) – I’m not sure if “addicted” is the right word, but I do play this every day. I love the fresh tracks, tournaments, and characters that are constantly being added. It’s a fun little distraction when I’m away from my Switch.
- Vampire Survivors (Switch) – I’ve really enjoyed this title over the past few months, dipping in from time to time when I have a few players. It’s super fun and deceptively simple. We’ve unlocked a lot of characters and upgrades, but there are still more levels to conquer.
