Another beginning to a year, its time for us to predict the top Nintendo headlines for 2009. First lets take a look at how we all did last year.

Justin’s Top Headlines:

  • “Mario & Co. Topple Halo Sales Records” – Smash Bros. Brawl Sales
  • “Can you hear me now? Wii Headset Announced!” (Correct: Wii Speak Close Enough)
  • “Red Steel 2: Online FPS Games will never be the Same” (Correct: Red Steel 2 Announced, Online Confirmed)
  • “Play the Latest 1080 Snowboarding Using the Wii Balance Board”
  • “Nintendo has trouble meeting demand for Wii Fit” (Very ture!)

Ben’s Top Headlines:

  • “Wii Equals Red Ring of Death For Microsoft: Xbox 360 sales take a dive” (True)
  • “Nintendo Releases Their Newest Hand-held: The Super DS” (kinda True  DSi)
  • “College Courses Incorporate Nintendo’s Wii as a Learning Device”
  • “Apple and Nintendo Join Forces”

James’ Top Headlines:

  • “Wii hits 35 million sold worldwide” (True)
  • “Nintendo Named Forbes Company Of The Year” (Still Waiting On This One)
  • “Star Fox Flies onto the Wii”

Kevin’s Top Headlines:

  • “Pikmin Invades the Wii” (Kinda, Pikmin Wiimake)
  • “Wii Owners Rejoice: Hard Drive Announced”
  • “Developers and Gamers Agree, WiiWare is Another Grand Slam for Nintendo” (Let you call this one)
  • “With Super Smash Bros. Brawl Dominating Sales, Nintendo interested in Smash Bros DS”
  • “PS3 Receives another Price Drop, Wii Receives New Colors” (Rumored)

I have to admit Justin won the predictions for last year, scoring 3 of his 5 predictions. Could 2009 be the time for me to shine, and Justin to go down? This year it will just be Justin and I going head-to-head, but that’s all you need.

James Predictions for 2009:

  • New Zelda title heading to Wii.
  • After 3 years, Nintendo announces Wii’s first price drop.
  • Capcom announces Street Fighter 4 coming to the Wii.
  • Disaster finally announced for NA release.
  • Nintendo shows off next generation DS
  • The Conduit becomes best seller for 2009.
  • Wii on a role, wins 2009.
  • Star Fox Wii announced.
  • Kid Icarus finally announced for the Wii.
  • New Nintendo channel for NA: Stream TV shows from the Wii.

Justin’s predictions for 2009:

  • Wii Sales top 60 Million Worldwide
  • DS Sales top 125 Million Worldwide, Passing PS2’s All-time Sales
  • Wii Sports Resort w/ Motion Plus is huge success, launches with more Sports than shown at E3
  • The next Zelda for Wii is shown, uses Motion Plus
  • The Conduit becomes huge hit on Wii, developers start to make higher quality Wii games
  • Nintendo focuses on hardcore gamers at E3, announces new Zelda, Donkey Kong
  • Nintendo finally releases a real storage solution, not just an update to copy games to an SD card faster -_-
  • Nintendo DSi launches in the rest of the world with great success due to quality DSiWare games at launch
  • Motion Plus changes Wii games forever (for the better)
  • Miyamoto shows demo of Pikmin 3 with online multiplayer and Wii Speak
  • Monster Hunter 3 launches in US with huge sales

I thought we would have more similarities in common, then we did. I guess it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Looking at the two list, who do you think will win? Let the contest begin!
