You can put this under the “I can not confirm but wouldn’t be surprised if true” file. There are reports retailers are slowly running out of the original 3DS, with no signs of new shipments.

According to Destructoid, it’s difficult to find the original 3DS systems at some of the major North America retail stores; Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop. Also, GameStop UK and GAME only mentions the “New” 3DS on their websites. Even Nintendo’s official site seemly has no mention of the original 3DS.

With the 3DS XL, 2DS and soon to release “New” 3DS, it is understandable if Nintendo is looking to phase out the original style of the 3DS. What do you think. Is it a good idea to move on from the original 3DS style?
