Update: Shadow of the Eternals Teaser Trailer, ‘Spiritual Successor’ to Eternal Darkness
Well this is quite interesting! IGN just posted a teaser trailer for a new game entitled ‘Shadow of the Eternals.’ You might say: ‘That’s not very interesting!’ Well the really interesting piece of information comes towards the beginning of the trailer: ‘from the creators of Eternal Darkness.’
Precursor Games is the developer of the game although Dennis Dyack, President of Silicon Knights (developer of Eternal Darkness on the GameCube), is involved with the project as well.
The trailer certainly looks promising but we really know very little about the game or what platform(s) it may be targeting. On Monday, May 6, the game will be featured in a ‘crowdfunding campaign.’ The video shows an impressive amount of detail but I imagine the funds would help gauge interest in the game and help fund further development. I would certainly hope that Shadow of the Eternals launches on Wii U since its predecessor was a Nintendo exclusive.
Check out the official website here and let us know what you think of the trailer! Would you be up for a successor to Eternal Darkness (rhetorical question)?
Thanks to NintendoPSX for the tip!
Update (this was uncovered from a Google Web Cache of the Precursor Games’ website):
ABOUT PAGE
When Detective Paul Becker is called to one of the bloodiest gang massacres in Louisiana state history, only two survivors remain from a brutal conflict between two rival cults. As Becker begins his interrogations of the suspects, their combined recollections will uncover the truth about the ‘Ancients’.
Shadow of the Ancients is a sequel to the critically acclaimed Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Reqiuem. Featuring an ensemble cast of heroes and villains, the game will span over 2500 years of history throughout Egypt, England, Hungary, and the United States. Players will question the perception of reality as they try to balance the mechanics of combat, magick, and sanity events to progress through the adventure.
Shadow of the Ancients will take players on a memorable journey throughout time; weaving historical fact with disturbing fiction to create an experience unlike any other.

The ‘Ordinem de non visis’ phrase mentioned at the beginning of the trailer means Order of the Unseen. Anyone find any specific Eternal Darkness mentions in the trailer?

Not sure if they can due to the fact Eternal Darkness is a Nintendo owned IP. Which leads my to worry, does that mean this successor can’t use Eternal Darkness’ gameplay mechanics? If so, it’s not 100% Eternal Darkness…But we must wait and see.

Well, if they can “somehow” bypass the trademark laws and lawyers of Nintendo, then that’s great. IF, Nintendo pushes in and steals it up by fully funding it and leaving it exclusive to Wii U, even BETTER in my honest opinion. Still iffy on this, just waiting on Nintendo to speak up here.
