Tears of joy, it would appear.
In what comes as no surprise to anyone who’s ever held a Nintendo Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has become the fastest selling game in franchise history. In just the three days since its May 12th launch, Tears of the Kingdom sold over 10 million units worldwide.
The game sold over 4 million copies in the Americas alone, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game and the fastest-selling Nintendo game for any system in that territory (our emphasis).
If social media is any indication, I don’t expect a hard drop in these numbers, either. In addition to the game’s massive, open-world adventure, the ability to use items and materials to craft vehicles and weapons has led to a massive amount of players showing off their impressive (and often hilarious) creations online. That’s going to keep Tears of the Kingdom in the spotlight for quite some time.
As for the game itself:
In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which is a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players decide their own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and on the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Discover new destinations, dangers, sights and puzzles that require wits and resourcefulness to overcome. Harnessing the power of Link’s new abilities, players will fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom currently has a Metascore of 96, putting it in the top spot of Current Switch Games. Pure Nintendo’s review is forthcoming, but we did spend a full hour loving on its early stages in a recent Pure Nintendo Podcast.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available in the Nintendo eShop and through select retailers at a suggested retail price of $69.99. Die-hard fans can also use this opportunity to justify upgrading to the The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition system, At least one Pure Nintendo staffer did!
