For those who are picking up a Wii U on launch day, you may find that some of the Wii U features are not immediately available.  You will have to install an update on Day One to ‘unlock’ some of the functionality on the Wii U console.  Miiverse, Wii U Chat, Nintendo TVii, the eShop, and Wii backwards compatibility will become available after the update is installed on day one.   As of right now I am unsure if this applies only to launch units or all Wii U units but as soon as this is confirmed the post will be updated.
