VC Update Jan 22 ZELDA:ALTTP!
Sweet! I just downloaded Zelda: A Link to the Past from the Wii Shop Channel. There was no mention of it on Nintendo’s site, but it IS online and ready to download. We should get the full press release list from Nintendo soon.
UPDATE: The official press release from Nintendo:
WII-KLY UPDATE: CLASSIC ZELDA GAME ANNOUNCED FOR WII SHOP CHANNEL
Jan. 22, 2007
Today Nintendo adds one of the most popular games in its library of classics to the Wii™ video game system’s Wii Shop Channel. The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™ goes live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Super NES®, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Return to an age of magic and heroes. When an evil magician named Agahnim begins kidnapping young maidens in Hyrule in a quest to break the imprisoning seal on Ganon, a young boy named Link is called upon to stop him. Link must venture into twisting mazes, dungeons, palaces and shadowy forests as he searches for the maidens and Princess Zelda. Traversing both Light and Dark Worlds, he must navigate eight dark dungeons, fighting evil enemies and huge bosses. Help our hero prevent Ganon and Agahnim from shattering Hyrule forever.

How much is it? I don’t know what 800 wii points equates to.
January 22, 2007
100 Wii points = $1
SNES games are 800 Wii points = $8
January 22, 2007
Sweet, now I will have to go out a buy a gc controller just to play this game.
100 points ~= $1.00
January 22, 2007
800 wii points = $8
January 22, 2007
That’s $8
January 22, 2007
There’s a straight 100 points = 1 US Dollar exchange, so $8

Don’t get a GC controller, Get a classic controller. This game will require a Classic controller, I am 99.99999% sure.

It’s nice to see that Nintendo is rolling out the bigger guns in terms of VC games. Lets hope we can see a few more major titles soon.
January 22, 2007
All the VC games are designed for the classic controller, but will work with the GC controller as well (just the button mapping will seem stupid like for F-Zero that I downloaded gas is the red b button and brake is the top button which are difficult to switch between. While on the classic they are together and easy.)
If you plan on buying GC games as well you might want to get the GC controller anyways.
Classic NES games of course will work with the WiiMote.

Are there any improvements to the game versus the original, or does it run exactly the same?
January 22, 2007
All other VC games have been completely unchanged, save for mario 64 having better antialiasing, so I would think it would be the same game. Zelda for NES on the VC even has the same framerate issues that the original had when too many sprites were on screen.
