Wii U close to outselling Xbox 360 in Japan
Go Nintendo has reported on a small victory for the Wii U, at least in Japan.
It seems that according to Famitsu numbers, the Wii U’s install base in Japan has now surpassed the Xbox 360.
Going by Media-Create’s analysis, the Wii U still has a few thousand units to go.
Either way, the Wii U will have outsold the Xbox 360 install base in Japan in a couple months.

That’s pretty impressive news to hear for us Nintendo fanboys here in America, because around here, the Xbox 360 is extremely popular. It seems like Nintendo has a thing with its Wii systems!
Speaking of Wii, I have a small theory. So you know how the line of Nintendo handhelds at first were called Game Boys? Well, I think that that is happening to DS (obviously), and I’m beginning to think that it’s happening with Wii too. The last time that happened for consoles was the NES-SNES era. That’s over 20 years ago! Come to think of it, the whole theory is like Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s Playstation. I don’t know, just something to think about.

I love Nintendo, but this actually isn’t impressive at all. The 360 was a huge flop in Japan, and currently only moves around 500 units a week.

Look at the context though – Wii U sells in one year what it took the Xbox 360 8 years to do.
