Wii U owners in Europe will have to wait a little longer to play Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker than their friends in other regions. Nintendo has announced a delay on the release of the Super Mario 3D World spin-off in Europe, now due for release in January 2015.

The game, which was announced during Nintendo’s E3 digital event last June, will still be released to the rest of the world sometime in the last quarter of 2014. So why the delay for Europe? The official word from a Nintendo UK representative explains in a fairly general sense:

To make the best launch timing possible in Europe, it is now confirmed that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is delayed in Europe until January 2015.

Another reason may be related to the restructure of Nintendo of Europe at the moment, with layoffs occurring as its Großostheim office closes and operations move to Frankfurt. Nintendo’s business structure in the region is also being reorganized to address lowering of stock orders from several major retailers due to the Wii U’s lackluster performance.

The delay of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker could therefore be a strategic move to give the game a better chance in the post-holiday period, rather than competing with other big titles during the holiday rush.

So a little disappointing for those affected by the delay, but thankfully its a short one. Let us know your thoughts on the delay, whether you’re in Europe or elsewhere.
