I’m trying something a little different for this review. Since Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon follows the same storyline in both the Wii and DS version, I’m combining the reviews into one while also explaining the unique features of each version.

Dawn of the Dragon is the 3rd game and final game in the Legend of Spyro series. The storyline revolves around Spyro recruiting the help of an unlikely ally, Cynder (a former enemy), to face Malefor, the Dark Master. Malefor has engulfed the world with evil, and Spryo must use all his power to stop the Dark Master.

One of the key elements in both the Wii and DS versions, is the ability to switch between Spyro and Cynder at any point during the game. Each character has different powers with their own unique capabilities. Spyro uses powers based on elements such as Fire, Earth, and Ice, while Cynder uses darker powers. All enemies in the game respond differently to different attacks based on their own element. So if you’re fighting an ice monster, your best bet is going to be Spyro’s Fire attacks. These powers are completely upgradeable throughout the game by gaining experience points from fallen foes. Newer attacks will produce more damage and even armor can be upgraded for both Spyro and Cynder to increase their defense stats.

We expect software sales for December, 2008 to come in at $2.7 billion, a 14% increase over last year. This was primarily driven by the next-generation home and portable software titles. Unit sales are likely to increase by 12% over last year with a modest 2% increase in the average selling price (ASP). The 2% increase in ASP differs from current trends as the growth in ASPs over the years has played a tremendous role in driving sales. We believe that heavy retail discounting, an increased competitive environment, and a greater than expected surge in DS and Wii game sales all played a significant role in driving down the yearly ASP growth.

REDMOND, Wash., Jan. 12, 2009 – A new survey, conducted by Wakefield Research for Nintendo, confirms that math anxiety is alive and well among U.S. kids. In fact, of 400 children surveyed, one in five believe that they are more likely to grow up to become a professional athlete, actor or singer than they are to get A’s and B’s in math next year. Other results of the survey conducted Dec. 12-23, 2008, include:

• More than one-third of kids surveyed say that math is their most difficult subject.
• Nearly one-third of kids have very negative feelings about math: 18 percent called it “boring,” while 13 percent actually called it “torture.”
• 86 percent of parents surveyed say that math is important to their careers, even though more than half of them admitted they thought they’d never need the math they learned in school.
