Publisher The Arcade Crew and developer Hibernian Workshop have announced a new game for the Nintendo Switch. Dark Devotion will hit the Switch in the first quarter of 2019. The announcement comes along with a new trailer, showcasing a few battle scenes.

Dark Devotion is a side-scrolling action RPG, depicting a society’s commitment to a macabre religion. Check out the trailer below to see the game in action, from sword-wielding battles to snowscapes and epic bosses.

The game’s atmospheric world draws inspiration from French Gothic architecture and the works of H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allen Poe. It strives to embed a sense of dread and danger in its labyrinthine design. The game features a pixel art design to bring the horror of the foreboding chambers to life. The developers want to show a sense of beauty hidden beneath Dark Devotion’s grim world, despite it being plagued with suffering.

The gameplay involves calculated combat against armies of god-like enemies. It encourages exploration and experimentation – with caution. There are traps and enemies ready to punish a careless pace, and weapon choice is critical.

Dark Devotion has already received positive praise in previews. It was on display at PAX East 2018, Gamescom and Bitsummit, giving us a good reason to anticipate its release.
