Engadget is reporting that there is a geopositioning application being developed for the DS. I’ll label this as a rumor for now, but Engadget says their source is “highly reliable”. Here’s the skinny:

A highly reliable source just sent in this image of a Nintendo DS using WiFi triangulation — rather than GPS — for geopositioning data (sorta like that iriver W10 we mentioned back in January). Not sure when this might be commercialized, but it would potentially make it possible to add location-based data to DS games without requiring some sort of GPS add-on.

Sounds like a cool idea and could increase the longevity of the DS and it’s niwifi service.
