Flingsmash is a very unique game that’s coming to the Wii later this year. One key feature you may not know about is the fact that it’s a Wii Motion Plus title. That’s right, the Wii Motion Plus is utilized in the game to give better accuracy for the aiming and pinball-like mechanics. Flingsmash, at its core, is a side-scrolling pinball game (with more depth than a simple pinball game). Your main character is a yellow ball character that flies around the screen based on where you ‘fling’ him. He’ll then ‘smash’ into various objects to get points, multipliers, and special items like keys. The goal is to find special objects in each level as you progress to a boss fight. Once you beat the boss, you can move on to the next world.

I was able to play one of the boss fights at the show and it was definitely a challenge. It all comes down to timing your flings and using the area of the screen to your advantage. If you use the screen to ricochet around, you’ll get much better results. It’s a pretty fun game with a simplistic gameplay mechanic but it has a lot of depth. You can unlock different types of materials to use for your character such as metal. This affects the weight of your character and how hard or how high you’re able to fling him. It was an interesting title and one that we hope to get our hands on again closer to launch.
