In an interview with CNet, RedOctane co-founder Charles Huang spoke on the details of an upcoming DS version of the Guitar Hero franchise.Huang confirmed that the DS version is being worked on, and said that they’re working through development problems with Nintendo, saying “We’re hoping to really bring the experience to the DS and to do some very, very different approaches. […] While the technical path hasn’t been set yet, we intend for this to be a very unique experience just like Guitar Hero was on consoles.” He also commented that this Guitar Hero “will play probably unlike any other DS game that has come out”, and declined to make any further comments on that aspect of the development. When asked if there was any plan to bring out a custom peripheral for the DS game, Huang replied “That is definitely one of the options we’re exploring. The DS peripheral is very intriguing to us. It’s an integral part of the Guitar Hero experience, so as much as possible, we would like to keep it within the experience as long as it makes sense and it plays well.” Huang also explained that the peripheral idea not only made sense for this particular game, “but also for the way people like to interact with the DS”.

He said that while they’re looking at the idea, they need to keep in mind that any peripheral would need to be affordable and fit into the environment in which DS games are usually played.
