Reggie Fils-Aime, COO and President over at Nintendo of America, spoke with IGN about Nintendo’s upcoming game console, Wii U.  Reggie believes that the pre-installed Wii U application, Miiverse, is going to be a “very compelling part” of the Wii U.  Reggie emphasizes his point by comparing Miiverse to the Streetpass functionality on the 3DS.  Streetpass does bring an extra twist to handheld gaming and Nintendo did a fine job implementing this on the 3DS.  I hope that Nintendo does an equally fine job with their implementation of Miiverse on the Wii U.  As of right now we do not know much about the Miiverse service but hopefully that will change in the near future with the Wii U;s launch date looming.  Until more news breaks, here is what Reggie had to say about Miiverse when speaking with the folks over at IGN.

“Our vision for this service is unlike anything that’s ever been before it… People put it in, maybe, current terms of things that it’s most analogous to, and it’s not really what this is going to be. It’s going to be a very rich, robust part of the experience. One of the things that we’ve found is that gamers want to talk about other gamers about the fun they have when they’re playing games. And that’s different from what you do on other social networks. We believe Miiverse will be a very compelling part of the Wii U proposition, just like Street Pass and the Street Pass Mii Plaza have become a very compelling part of the Nintendo 3DS proposition.”
