In an interview with Fortune Magazine, game designer Shigeru Miyamoto stated that his involvement with the hardware of Nintendo’s upcoming platform, the NX, is very little.

“I’ve pulled myself back out of some of the hardware section and I’m really focused on some of the software that I’m involved in…Of course I am observing and looking at the hardware, but I am not actively participating and making decisions.”

Both Fortune and Gamesindustry.biz both point out that the Wii U only sold 9.5 million units over it’s 2.5 year lifespan, the same number Sony’s Playstation 4 sold in around nine months.  With the NX likely a year or so away, Nintendo is understandably focused on how they can recapture the success of their previous consoles.

What do you think of Miyamoto stepping back from the hardware side of things on the NX?
