Nintendo’s latest list of eShop releases for the European region have been announced, and this week we see a bit of a Donkey Kong theme on the Wii U with three titles in the mix.

There’s plenty more choice for players though, from new releases and discounts to Virtual Console treats, plus some new NES-inspired 3DS themes.

Wii U eShop

  • Citizens of Earth (Atlus, €9.59 / £7.99 until 29th January, then €11.99 / £9.99) – an interesting and humorous RPG that was thankfully picked up by Atlus after it fell short of Kickstarter funding. You play the Vice President of the World, tasked with gathering civilians to assist you on a quest to save Earth.
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99 until 29th January, then €19.99 / £17.99) – a challenging and welcome return to the DK platforming franchise, originally released on the Wii.

Wii U Virtual Console

  • DK: King of Swing (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29) – hailing from the Game Boy Advance, this quirky 2005 title sees you swinging our tie-wearing ape hero between pegs with the shoulder buttons to traverse tricky stages and tackle enemies.
  • Donkey Kong Jr. Math (Nintendo, €4.99 / £3.49) – an edutainment title from 1983 in Japan (1986 in Europe) that combines number crunching with retro vine-swinging. Note: this is the US version of the game.
