While we’re all still recovering from the excitement of the recent E3 conference, Nintendo continue to surprise us with tidbits of information related to their future projects.

Having said that, we’ve been waiting patiently for some time for any news regarding how our 3DS and Wii U consoles might work better together. During a recent interview with IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto gave a reason why we haven’t heard much about this previously:

I guess it just hasn’t really fit into the titles that we have been making and it’s not that we haven’t thought about it.

Shinya Takahashi, general manager of Nintendo Software Planning and Development, then spoke further about the future of Wii U and 3DS connectivity:

… there are some things that we’re working on that we haven’t announced here at E3 that do involve some sort of communication between the Wii U and 3DS.

This was during a conversation about the upcoming Super Smash Bros, which will be able to transfer character data between Wii U and 3DS consoles.

Takahashi didn’t go further into the type of games we might expect to use this communication, though he hinted that they “are thinking about that with Mario and Donkey Kong”.
