Nintendo: No Big “Megaton Surprises” This Year, No Media Summit For NA
Well, I can only answer the questions I have been given. So, here goes. Since the E3 Expo in June, I think you and your readers have been pretty familiar with our holiday lineup. We don’t have any last-minute megaton surprises to announce. And we’ve tried to be pretty good about giving media (and consumers!) opportunities to get hands-on time with our games. They were featured at the E3 Expo and then again this past weekend at PAX, where we showed off upcoming games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story. For the first time we also showed off a new WiiWare Pokémon game called Pokémon Rumble.
In addition to the major trade shows, we’ve also held some mini media summits for individual games, like Metroid Prime: Trilogy, where writers got hands-on time with the game. For that particular game, Retro Studios also opened its doors to give a behind-the scenes look at the game.
For consumers, the Nintendo DSi Mobile Tour and the Wii Sports Resort Mobile Tour have been hitting concerts and festivals all summer. On top of all that, we have the Experience Nintendo Tour hitting the road to show off our games to members of the media around the country who haven’t been able to make it to some of these other events.
So while we’re not planning to do another big summit for all media this year, I think it’s safe to say we’re giving both consumers and writers like you ample opportunities to check out the games they want to see in advance of the holidays. Additionally, remember that in the past we have held a variety of consumer-sampling activities around the holidays. Your readers should be on the lookout for future opportunities to get their hands on the newest Nintendo titles, though there’s nothing specific I can share with you just now

This is strange, ever since the Wii was launched Nintendo has been holding a NA Media Summit in late September early October, to correspond with the Japanese one they normally hold. About the Zelda first trailer rumor, this still is possible. We all now that the Zelda game is in the works, so it technically would not be an announcement. I am still holding out hope for this rumor!
