Nintendo of America have filed an official request for a six-month extension of time to file the Statement of Use for the dormant Eternal Darkness trademark that they own.

This is the first extension filed by Nintendo and was submitted on Monday, June 23 to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Part of the request declares that Nintendo has a genuine interest in make use of the trademark, so the extension itself could be a sign that the company is at least still interested in resurrecting the franchise.

The applicant has a continued bona fide intention to use or use through the applicant’s related company or licensee the mark in commerce on or in connection with all of the goods and/or services listed in the Notice of Allowance or as subsequently modified for this specific class.

A Kickstarter campaign failed to secure enough funds last year to develop a spiritual successor to the GameCube exclusive, although Precursor Games believed at the time that the game, titled Shadow of the Eternals could still be completed via other means.
