Nintendo’s Shares Rise After Smartphone Deal
Following yesterday’s announcement from Nintendo regarding a deal with mobile game developer DeNA, investors have reacted accordingly.
The news caused Nintendo’s share price to skyrocket to a high for 2015, rising by almost 30%. With investors calling for Nintendo to move into the smartphone world for some time, it’s no surprise to see the resulting share price reaction.
Part of yesterday’s announcement centered on the games to come to mobile platforms, with president Iwata stating that instead of porting existing games, new games would be created using existing IP, the first of which will be released later this year.
It’s all very exciting news for fans and investors alike, so let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Interesting for sure. I was on smartphone games for awhile, but found my way back to the 3DS a couple years after its release, and just picked up a Wii U. For classic Mario and Mario Kart fun, it can’t be beat. Touchscreen controls just don’t translate well. I have faith that they will come up with some pretty clever ways to implement controls on touch devices.

Agreed, I looked into some of the apps from DeNa and saw that they have some interesting titles. I also would not be surprised if they made a game in the style of Pokemon Rumble.

It “could” be good but all I see is a freemium based future for there games and those who say they wouldn’t do such a thing to there name, take a look at Pokemon Shuffle, perfect example of a freemium game and on 3DS now….
Now also take the people they partnered with, DeNA or formally known as Mobage, they have been known for freemium games and lets face it there are not that many freemium games in the world that are decent and don’t force you to spend money … So this should be good….

I agree with the other comments and think (hope) that Nintendo will bring something new to the mobile gaming table. In one sense, it’s good they’re not just porting games, as they just won’t work as well, so hopefully Nintendo come up with new and interesting ways to play on touch screens.
