I am not a very big fan of Pachter, in fact I want to punch him in the face. With that I normally don’t post things he says, but I will make an exception for this statement. As some of you may or may not know; Eli Courey, who helps us out here at Pure Nintendo, has his own site on the side called macdaddynews.com. The other day Eli and I were talking and we had this same idea. We both believe that Apple will come out with some type of 3D screen for the iphone and or ipad. Now will that take it over the top of the 3DS…that’s where I disagree with dear Pachter.

“It’s pretty clear that Apple intends to emulate (see their patent filings last month), so only a matter of time before we see tablets with the same technology used for viewing movies. I’m not sure that the screen size of the 3DS will be ideal for watching movies, and Apple is pretty far ahead with its iTunes/App store, so it’s more likely that Apple will take the lead once it releases a glasses free device… I’m really not confident that Nintendo thinks of itself as an entertainment company; rather, they seem laser focused on games, and that has served them well. Apple, on the other hand, is constantly trying to branch into entertainment, usually with great success, and is famous for taking others’ ideas and iterating them into a new form factor and generating a lot of new content. I expect them to do the same with the 3DS technology, and it will be interesting to see if Nintendo’s first mover advantage is sustained.” – Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter
