E3 2010: Nintendo E3 Press Conference Live

By  •  June 15, 2010

Hey everyone! All of us (James, myself, Eli, and Kevin) are sitting here at the Nokia Theatre waiting for Nintendo to kick off what could be their biggest show in years (hopefully)! We’re about 50 minutes til showtime so stay tuned!

(All times in PST)

  • 8:13am – Some music is playing over the loud speaker, pretty good mix so far. Also, the Nokia Theatre is a lot bigger than I thought! Way bigger than even the Kodak theatre (where Nintendo showed the Wii’s lineup in 2006)
  • 8:36 – The place is filling up pretty good now, but still lots of seats open. Like I said before, this venue is huge!
  • 8:41 – More music playing, Nintendo is also showing a series of trivia questions on the screen while we wait. Here’s one for you: “Which song do you play to warp to the Desert Colossus in Ocarina of Time?” If you know the answer, let us know in the comments! :)
  • 8:48 – Getting so close! Tension building! I’m now using my phone for updates cause the Internet is really bad. We’ll keep you up to date though. If the liveblog lags at all, you can always check out nintendo’s live stream at e3.nintendo.com
  • 8:53 – James and I are getting excited. Place is pretty full now too. Oh, we’re on the front row too so we’ll have some great pictures from the event
  • 9:01 – shows about to start! Reggies on stage now
  • 9:03 – talking about expeience being the most important aspect of technology
  • 9:04 – Zelda trailer shown! Cel shaded but kore detailed than wind waker
  • 9:05 – Miyamoto on screen talking about Zelda. Now Bill Trinen is on stage demoing Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
  • 9:07 – Miyamoto now on stage demoing!
  • 9:09 – Have to cut enemies in certain directions. Shield controlled with nunchuk sword with motion plus

GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS 2010 GAMER’S EDITION ANNOUNCES THE TOP 50 VIDEOGAME SERIES OF ALL TIME

By  •  May 6, 2010

NEW YORK (May 6, 2010) – Guinness World Records, the global authority on record-breaking achievements, today announced the all-time Top 50 Videogame Series as voted on by the readers. After receiving more than 13,000 votes, it was Halo, Call of Duty and The Legend of Zelda that were left standing at the top of the chart. The list currently featured in the Guinness World Records 2010 Gamer’s Edition notes the best all-around series including all titles and spin-offs, serving as a snapshot of the biggest names in gaming today.

Landing in first place is Microsoft’s flagship franchise Halo – the “Best-Selling First-Person Shooter (FPS) Franchise Ever”. According to the Gamer’s Edition, “Featuring an iconic character, excellent level design, perfect controls and unparalleled multiplayer options, the series sets the bar at near-unattainable heights.”

Call of Duty and The Legend of Zelda claimed the second and third spots, respectively. Call of Duty – the most successful entertainment launch of all-time – boasts beautifully balanced gameplay with jaw-dropping set pieces and extensive multiplayer options. The Legend of Zelda is credited for providing players of all skill levels addictive and immersive gameplay, while also featuring one of gaming’s most recognizable heroes – Link.

“We decided to take a different approach with this list than we did in the previous edition,” said Guinness World Records Gaming Editor Gaz Deaves. “Instead of asking developers, industry insiders and journalists to rank their favorite titles, we approached a different kind of expert: the players themselves! We are confident that this ‘top 50’ more accurately reflects the tastes of the average gamer and not just the critics.”

GAME Reveal: Greatest Computer Games of All Time Mario Number One

By  •  June 18, 2008

Portly plumber Mario can lay claim to being the greatest gaming icon of all time, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Master Chief, Solid Snake, Lara Croft and Sonic the Hedgehog in GAME.co.uk’s Greatest Games of All Time vote and securing an impressive 11% of the overall top 100.

His 1995 Super Mario 64 at number 5 is his highest ranked title, while other Mario games in the top 25 include Mario Kart Wii at number 13, the beloved NES (and later SNES) platformer Super Mario Bros. 3 at 16 and the stunning Nintedo Wii game Super Mario Galaxy at 21.

In comparison, arch-rival Sonic the Hedgehog’s best entry is at number 19, while only three Sonic titles made the cut, one of which, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, also stars the moustachioed, squeaky-voiced Nintendo mascot.
