As we welcome the weekend, it’s time to check out the games we’re obsessed with right now. This week’s Pure Nintendo playlist features everything from the ink-splatting delight of Splatoon to the alien-zapping dread of Metroid.

We’re still realing from Nintendo’s latest Direct, with a few us enjoying the surprise release of Metroid Prime Remastered. This classic GameCube title is back with a vengeane; watch for our upcoming review! Our playlist also features the new Gameboy additions to Switch Online, along with a couple of intresting demos.

Check out our full playlist below. What’s on your own playlist this week? Let us know the games you’ve just discovered, or long-lost gems!

  • Splatoon 3 ( Nintendo Switch) – I hopped on Splatoon this week for the Splatfest. While I thought the theme was kind of silly, I went for Milk Chocolate. Looks like I should have went for my second choice because White Chocolate kicked everyone’s butt.
  • Rhythm Sprout (Nintendo Switch) – I’ve been playing this for a review. It’s been pretty cool so far. I’m really enjoying my time with it and hope to have my review written in the next few days. But in case your wondering, I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in to rhythm games.
  • Animal Crossing New Horizons (Nintendo Switch) – I had a craving to start playing this again and now I can’t stop. I’ve been redoing my whole island. Trying to unlock new items and play through the Happy Home Designer DLC. It’s a good relaxing game when you’re going through a stressful time.

  • Guild series (3DS) – With the closure of the 3DS (and Wii U) eShop only weeks away, I’ve been revisiting the handheld to ensure I grab as many games as possible. Specifically, I’m playing Bugs vs. Tanks! and Liberation Maiden.
  • Journey to Kresia (3DS) – Another 3DS game, this RPG comes courtesy of my friends at KEMCO. I’m only a couple hours in, but I appreciate that the tropes are getting some good-natured ribbing in a self-aware style.
  • Nintendo Switch Online – While my wife and I have checked out a few of the games, we’re mostly playing Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. Long (and silly) title aside, this game is a ton of fun, as expected.
  • Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection (Nintendo Switch) – My review needs a bit more time (in fairness, we got our code late), but this is a good collection with a few sizable cons to keep in mind. I’ll still end up recommending it but look for the caveats when my review publishes soon.

  • Metroid Prime Remastered (Nintendo Switch) – I literally stopped playing everything else the moment this was shadow-dropped after the latest Direct. Metroid Prime is one of my favorite GameCube games and this remaster is absolute perfection. It looks, feels and plays better than I could have ever imagined. I’m hooked on Prime Remastered. Hey Nintendo, good job!

Keyatta

  • Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Nintendo Switch Online) – Ever since the announcement that Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, I’ve been spending a lot of my time playing them.
  • ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree (Nintendo Switch) – I’m looking forward to sharing my review of this game with PN’s readers this week. I’m currently hooked on its story with inspiration from Nordic mythology, its quite challenging puzzles, and its rhythmic combat.

Justin

  • Metroid Prime Remastered (Nintendo Switch) – Like Jes, this is one of, if not my favorite, game of all time so naturally I’ve been playing the remaster and it’s amazing — Katelyn and I have been playing through together taking turns and having a blast. We almost have all the artifacts, we’re going to try and get all the upgrades before heading to the final boss. Hoping we get 2 and 3 in this same remaster/remake treatment.

Jemma

  • Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe (Nintendo Switch demo) – I thoroughly enjoyed this demo, working through all available levels, bosses, and minigames. Unlocking masks is so much fun! There’s a very good chance I’ll be purchasing this one when it arrives on the Switch next week, so expect to see it on my playlist in the future! Check out the details over on Nintendo’s website.
  • Sea of Stars (Nintendo Switch demo) – another demo that dropped after the recent Nintendo Direct, I’ve only spent a short amount of time with this one so far, but it’s clearly a breathtaking homage to RPGs like Chrono Trigger. I look forward to exploring it more! Check out the details ove ron Nintendo’s website.
