Toon Tanks is a new arcade style shooter from Petite Games, available on the WiiU eshop. This fun fast paced game is all about blowing up your enemy before being blown up yourself. Toon Tanks starts up easy then slowly cranks up the volume, serving up 80 colorful (but repetitive) levels of tank carnage! It’s a really cute, simple game but offers up enough of a challenge to keep you coming back for more.
When beginning you can choose to play through a quick tutorial that informs you of everything you need to know. By dodging enemy fire and destroying all of the purple tanks you can unlock the next level. The controls were really easy for me to figure out, ZR and ZL are forward and reverse, the analog stick moves your tank and the A button shoots. You don’t use the touch screen for anything but the menu and level selection, which was really weird in my opinion but nothing huge. While it seems like you could easily breeze through every level its a bit more challenging than it seems.
The environment in which you play in is a bit small, but that adds to the challenge. Not only will one shot from an opposing tank end your game but each time they shoot it can bounce off of any surface up to 3 times before disappearing, making them difficult to dodge if you’re not careful. Also you can not repeatedly shoot your gun like a mad man. You get 3 shots on the screen, once they hit something and go bang you can shoot 3 more.
I enjoyed the comic book like visuals in the game and how words like BOOM and POW would pop up during the levels, it adds a bit of cuteness to this already adorable game. Sound wise there’s not a ton to judge on here but its a nice medley of war sound effects and marching anthems (if that’s what you want to call it?) The main problem is the variety of level backgrounds and layouts. It gets really repetitive on that note. Throughout the game I had to ask myself if I had played certain levels before because they looked almost exactly alike.
Aside from the major deja vu when going through all 80 levels I really enjoyed Toon Tanks. I found myself playing through quite a bit of it without stopping at one point, and you really can’t go wrong with a game that’s $1.99. Well you can (checkout some of my other reviews) but not this one. So if your craving a fun, simple (and cheap) arcade style challenge head over to the eshop and download Toon Tanks!

Good Value
While Toon Tanks doesn’t have a ton to offer it can be a pretty fun addicting game. Regardless of how similar the levels were it was simple to figure out and it was a great price, I recommend picking it up if you enjoy arcade

Good question. That’s one thing I forgot to go over. Yes strictly 1 player.
