With E3 just around the corner, it’s time to get excited. And Retro Studios – famed developers of Metroid Prime and recent Donkey Kong Country games – have turned the excitement up a notch with a teasing tweet that hints at their E3 involvement.

The simple tweet asks “Can you dig it?,” followed by a link to Nintendo’s E3 page, and begs the question – what are Retro Studios working on next, and will be hear about it next week?

With Nintendo holding their E3 Nintendo Direct next Tuesday, 16 June, plus live Treehouse broadcasts across the three days featuring demos, developer interviews and further announcements, there are plenty of opportunities for some Retro time.

Fans have been clamoring for any mention of a new Metroid game for years, but it could just as easily be something Donkey Kong-related – Diddy Kong Racing, perhaps? It could be something else entirely of course, but that’s the fun of speculation.
