Elementallis is a really enjoyable action/adventure game that feels like a tribute to the classic top down adventures many of us grew up playing. Fans of old school Legend of Zelda games will spot the inspiration right away, from the exploration-focused world to the puzzle-filled dungeons and the steady unlocking of new abilities. Even with those influences, Elementallis still manages to feel like its own game thanks to its elemental magic system and heartfelt story.

You play as a young hero whose parents, both powerful elementalists, gave their lives trying to save the world. As you progress through your journey, you will slowly uncover more about their fate and your connection to everything. The story isn’t incredibly deep, but it kept me interested and gave me a reason to keep pushing forward.

The gameplay is easy to jump into and never feels too complicated. Combat mixes traditional sword and shield action with elemental powers that become more important as you progress. Figuring out which elements work best against different enemies and using them to solve puzzles keeps things fresh throughout the adventure.

The game starts off pretty forgiving, but the challenge does pick up later on, especially in some of the temples and boss fights.

The temples were one of my favorite parts of the game. Each one introduces new ideas, puzzles, and enemies, so they rarely feel repetitive. Exploring the world is rewarding, too, with hidden upgrades, secrets, and new areas opening up as you gain more elemental abilities.

Performance on the Nintendo Switch is solid. Whether I played in handheld mode or docked, the game looked great and ran smoothly. I didn’t run into any bugs or technical problems during my playthrough.

Some parts of the game will feel familiar if you’ve played a lot of classic action-adventure games, but that’s honestly part of its charm. The nostalgic feel is one of Elementallis’ biggest strengths. It captures that old-school sense of adventure while adding enough of its own ideas to stay interesting.

If you’re a fan of classic Zelda-style games and enjoy exploration, solving puzzles, and unlocking new abilities, Elementallis is definitely worth a look.
