Sometimes you just need to put on some music, forget about reality, and dance like a silly goose. That’s where Just Dance: Decades of Hits comes in! Ubisoft’s latest entry brings together music from the 1970s through the 2020s, giving players plenty of opportunities to bust a move, embarrass themselves in front of their friends, and maybe even discover a new favorite song along the way.

One of the things I like about this collection is the variety. There’s a little something for everyone, whether you’re into older hits or more recent music. Songs like “It’s Tricky,” “Wannabe,” “Bye Bye Bye,” and Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!” give you plenty of reasons to get up and move. Some songs will have you singing along while others might leave you wondering how on earth you’re supposed to keep up with the choreography. Either way, you’re bound to have a good time! The millennial in me definitely enjoyed dancing to NSYNC, maybe a little too much.

I’ve included the reveal trailer for the entire song list above, if you’d like to check out what is available.

The visuals are another fun part of the experience. Each song has its own colorful aesthetic, with different characters, outfits, and dance routines that make the performances entertaining to watch. There’s always something happening on screen, so, even when you’re struggling to remember which way your arms are supposed to go, there’s plenty to keep your eyes busy.

The main attraction is still the dancing, and thankfully, you don’t need to be a professional to enjoy it. The on screen dancers show you what to do, and you’re supposed do your best to follow along, easy peasy. You can try to rack up points by nailing the moves, but you can also just let loose and not worry too much about your score. Sometimes your best strategy is simply surviving the song without accidentally punching someone standing next to you, or breaking your TV.

When it comes to setting up a multiplayer dance off, getting everyone connected is pretty simple, too. You can use the free Just Dance Controller app on your smartphone to join the game, and the app’s camera mode lets you dance without holding a controller. On Nintendo Switch, you can also use Joy-Con controllers. Ubisoft has also confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be available as a free upgrade for Nintendo Switch owners on November 10, 2026, so you won’t have to buy the game all over again to make the jump to the newer console.

Speaking of multiplayer, I had some friends over this weekend, and we all had a blast playing together. Everyone was able to jump in and figure things out without any confusion or complicated setup getting in the way. Before long, we were all dancing, laughing, and trying to keep up with the screen. It’s the sort of game that doesn’t require everyone to be a hardcore gamer, which makes it an easy choice for a get-together. With support for up to six players, you can get a pretty big group involved, too. Just make sure you’ve got enough room to swing those arms!

There’s also a new Adventure Mode that follows a character named Lyra on a journey to rescue her father. The story takes you through six themed worlds inspired by the game’s different decades, progressing through the songs will unlock rewards. It’s a nice little extra for anyone who wants some more gameplay variety.

Workout Mode is available as well, making it possible to get some exercise while having fun. It’s a nice alternative to sitting around playing games all day, and you might be surprised by how much moving you end up doing. Who needs a gym membership when you can get ripped playing video games? :)

The biggest downside is the additional music available through Just Dance+. While having access to more songs is certainly appealing, the subscription comes at an extra cost. I understand that keeping a large music library available isn’t free, but it would still be nice to have more content included with the game itself. If you’re happy with the included selection, there’s plenty to enjoy, but players who want to expand their playlist should keep the additional expense in mind.

Version 1.0.0

Overall, Just Dance: Decades of Hits is a fun way to get moving, enjoy some music, and spend time with friends. The colorful performances, accessible gameplay, and variety of songs make it easy to pick up and enjoy, whether you’re a longtime fan of the series or someone who just wants to DANCE! The extra cost of the expanded song library is a bit of a downside, but it doesn’t take away from the fun of the main experience. If you’re looking for a game that will get you off the couch and add a little fun to your day, this one is worth considering.
