64 mbs or ram seems a little low to me.

64 MBs isn’t too bad, the original DS only had 4MB of RAM. You really only need a lot of memory if you’re dealing with a multiple purpose device like a computer or phone/pda. Since it’s an embedded, handheld product, that’s used only for gaming it doesn’t need nearly as much memory as we think it would.

The Wii itself only has 64MB of RAM and then 24MB internal memory (on-chip).

Yes i agree with you the PSP only had 32 itself, but I iPod touch which has 256 now. Yes i understand that the ipod is doing other things like running the OS and other things at the same time. I’m not saying that the DS needs 256 but what about at least 125 or something a little higher. Just saying.

The simple answer why it has 64 MBs is both cost and the fact that it only needs that much. Apple has to justify that price point for the iPod Touch and to push other functions but Nintendo optimizes their system for one thing, which is why they always have the best hardware in my opinion. It would be cool to have more memory I guess, but at the end of the day, specs don’t mean much as long as the games play, and play well.
I’m with you though on having at least a little bit more memory especially since Nintendo’s handheld life is 5-6 years.

I’m not doubting Nintendo on their hardware, that’s not my point. My point is why only 64mbs? Wouldn’t you think that the use of 3D would call for more ram itself? The price i don’t think is a good reason. Nintendo being such a big company i’m sure it would only cost no more the $10 to add another 100 mbs or ram, and I am not calling for that much more. Lets say that Nintendo dose lose a little money with adding 60-70 more mbs of ram. In six months it wouldn’t matter because the price of the ram would probably even out. Yes i understand that $10 over a couple million can add up but why not go all out if your going to wait another 5-6 years (i think more) for your next system.

I want to be clear to everyone reading this. I’m not arguing that the 3DS wont be awesome. I have held it in my hands and played it, it is just as awesome as you imagine. I am arguing mostly for the fact that these specs may not be right. We all know that IGN can be a bunch of little lier when it comes to stuff.
