EA announces Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu as Madden NFL 10 cover athletes

By  •  April 24, 2009

Can there be a double Madden curse?

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., – April 24, 2009 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will both be featured on the cover of Madden NFL 10, set to hit retail shelves on Friday, August 14. For the first time in the 21-year history of the Madden NFL franchise, two athletes will grace the cover of the award-winning football franchise. Leaders on their respective sides of the field, Fitzgerald and Polamalu epitomize the offensive and defensive battles that take place on every play in the NFL…the Fight for Every Yard.

”Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu are exemplary examples of the epic battle between offense and defense in the NFL,” said Sr. Product Manager Anthony Stevenson. “Madden NFL 10 showcases the Fight For Every Yard, and nobody fights harder than Troy and Larry, making them the perfect athletes to grace the cover.”

Larry Fitzgerald will be the second athlete to have been featured on both the Madden NFL cover (Madden NFL 10) and NCAA Football cover (NCAA Football 2005) the first being Shaun Alexander. The three-time Pro Bowl selection and 2009 Pro Bowl MVP reached career highs in reception yards (1,431) and touchdowns (12) in 2008, and set NFL post season records for yards (546), receptions (30), and TDs (7), as he led the Arizona Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII. Fitzgerald’s athleticism and unyielding focus often result in acrobatic catches that change the course of a game.

Nintendo’s Wii Play Surpasses 10 Million Units Sold in the United States

By  •  March 19, 2009

Wii Play™, a collection of nine mini-games, has now sold more than 10 million units in the United States alone since its debut in February 2007, according to figures released today by the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Wii Play, now the top-selling software on all consoles and portable systems in the United States, comes packaged with a Wii Remote™ controller.

“Wii Play mini-games are fun and they get people playing together,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Even if you believe people are buying Wii Play solely for the controller, that indicates that there are now more than 10 million people who have an extra Wii Remote controller in their homes. When added to the 12.7 million Wii Remote controllers that have sold separately, this reinforces the growing ‘social gaming’ trend we have been seeing where friends and family use their Wii games as a social hub – both in person and online.”

3G Studios Scores Big Hit with Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009

By  •  March 11, 2009

RENO, Nev. – March 11, 2009 – 3G Studios, Inc. responded to reports that the game has sold over 500,000 units and is an NPD Top Seller. Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009 continues to set records as it has since its release. The game was the first celebrity workout title to ship on the Nintendo WiiTM and has proven to have opened the door for additional workout and health based games to enter the market going forward. 3G was also the first independent developer to ship a title which incorporated the use of the Wii Balance BoardTM.

3G Studios helped redefine what it takes to have a successful game by targeting a new audience. “We never set out to make a hardcore video game. We focused on creating an interactive training session with arguably the best-known fitness trainer on the planet. We want people to sweat and have fun doing it,” said James Kosta, CEO of 3G Studios, Inc. He continued, “Jillian is fantastic to work with. We had a blast trying to keep up with her.”

Analyst Michael Pachter from Wedbush Morgan successfully predicted big things for Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009 saying, “Not all consumers might be aware of what Wii Fit is, but most weight conscious women know Jillian Michaels as a brand. She’s branded as a fit person who helps people lose weight,” he said, “and that brand affinity could help more people see the Balance Board as less of a video game gizmo and more of a health product.”
