Critically-acclaimed SteamWorld Dig, which hit the 3DS this time last year, is due for release on the Wii U eShop later this week on August 28. Developers Image & Form have confirmed a cross-buy promotion for the game upon release – at least, in Europe.

Image & Form first mentioned the possibility of such a promotion last month on Twitter. It turns out to be a great offer too, as If you already own SteamWorld Dig on the 3DS, you will be able to pick up the Wii U version for 25% off the regular price, making it  €6.49 / £4.99 upon release.

The offer will be available in Europe, Australia and New Zealand – just like the Squid’s Odyssey promotion. According to Image & Form, the offer simply can’t be offered in the US or Canada at this stage, offering this brief explanation:

Unfortunately, NOA (Nintendo of America) does not have this mechanism in place – a cross-buy like this isn’t possible yet for our American customers, and we don’t know when they will have it.

It’s unfortunate news for US fans, and a seemingly missed opportunity for that market, but hopefully one that Nintendo can seek to rectify in the near future.

In the meantime, let us know in the comments section if you’re in one of the lucky regions and plan to take advantage of this great offer.
