Gears Of War Honoured As The ’02 Ultimate Game Of The Year’ At 25th Annual Golden Joystick Awards
GAMERS ROCK OUT AS GUITAR HERO II SCOOPS TWO GONGS
Microsoft’s breakthrough title, Gears of War has been honoured as the ‘O2 Ultimate Game of the Year’ at today’s 25th annual Golden Joystick Awards, which took place at the prestigious Hilton Hotel on London’s Park Lane.
Developed by Epic Games, Gears of War offered gamers a unique blend of tactical action and survival horror and was this year’s big winner scooping a massive four awards in total including ‘The Sonopress Xbox Game of the Year’, the ‘Nuts All-Nighter Award’ as voted for by Nuts readers and the prestigious ‘Editors’ Choice’ award. In the 25th anniversary year of the UK’s longest-established and most popular games awards, it was the diverse range of pioneering software that grabbed the attention of UK gamers as nearly 750,000 votes were cast, up on last year’s 540,000 votes.
Guitar Hero II and Nintendo were the ceremony’s other notable winners each receiving two awards each. Played with a special guitar controller, Guitar Hero II was honoured in both ‘BBC 1Xtra’s Soundtrack of the Year’ category and ‘bliss magazine’s Girls’ Choice Award’. Nintendo triumphed as the ‘Publisher of the Year’ while their ultra successful Wii console scooped the ‘T3 Innovation Award’, gazumping Sony’s Playstation 3 console, which was last year’s winner of the ‘One To Watch’ award.

WHO’S MAKING GAMES FOR NINTENDO SYSTEMS? EVERYONE!
Nintendo Unveils its Incredible Lineup of Games for the Holidays and Beyond
REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 11, 2007 – Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ continue to appeal to every kind of consumer. As Nintendo’s list of upcoming games demonstrates, Nintendo has a game or experience for everyone, no matter their taste, age or video game playing acumen. Wii games like Super Mario Galaxy™ anchor Nintendo’s lineup for the holidays, as Wii adds games faster than any other system in this generation. For Nintendo DS, Flash Focus™: Vision Training in Minutes a Day and Master of Illusion™ again will make people think of video gaming in a whole new way.
“Because of Wii and Nintendo DS momentum, third-party publishers are supporting our systems like never before,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “Their lineup of diverse games is testament to how we make the population of gamers a little bigger every day.”
Major publishers worldwide are making games for Wii and Nintendo DS. Shoppers will find dozens of options through the holiday shopping season and into 2008. By the end of 2007, the library of Wii games is expected to grow to 140, not counting nearly 200 downloadable Virtual Console™ titles, while the Nintendo DS library should be nearly 450. The following is a partial list of the upcoming games for Wii and Nintendo DS. Note that game titles and launch dates are subject to change.
