Justin mentioned this last night during our Koopa Kast but here are the hard numbers. To date the 3DS has shipped more units than the N64. All this numbers are unconfirmed but pretty close to what I have seen.

  • 3DS Hardware Shipments to Retailers as of September 30th, 2013: 34,980,000 units
  • N64 Hardware Shipments to Retailers as of September 30th, 2013: 32,930,000 units
  • 3DS Software Shipments to Retailers as of September 30th, 2013: 122,420,000 units
  • N64 Software Shipments to Retailers as of September 30th, 2013: 224,970,000 units

It is also interesting to note that at this pace the 3DS should overtake the N64 in the software category. My guess will be in about two years.
