We first wrote up Toy Soldiers HD—a unique FPS, top-down strategy, and tower defense mash-up featuring little green army men—after receiving a “hands-on” demo back in June of 2021. At the time, it was supposed to receive a Switch release the following August. Ends up the month was right, it’s the year that was off.

Accelerate Games has announced that Toy Soldiers HD will finally be released on for Nintendo Switch on August 5, 2022. Called a “neo-classic mash-up of tower defense, FPS action, and 3rd-person top-down strategy,” the game embodies the imaginary battles we waged with our childhood toys, complete army miniatures, robots, spaceships, and more. And just like those battles Toy Soldiers HD can be played alone or with a friend.

Unlike many tower defense games where you build your defenses and watch the action unfold, Toy Soldiers HD gives you the unique ability to instantly pop in and out of the battlefield from both third-person top-down strategic perspective and overhead first-person POV shooter perspective. Watch the battle play out as you build, upgrade, and repair your defenses or jump directly into the action.

Control fearsome armored vehicles and tanks with explosive firepower as you win the war and earn your upgrades for the next thrilling battle on the road to victory!

Take to the skies and rain down fire from above, take out enemy bombers or earn your victory in exciting dogfights as you pilot the first airborne war machines.

The original Toy Soliders was released as an Xbox Live Arcade game in 2011, and it finally arrives on a Nintendo system with more than just visual enhancements. Toy Soldiers HD will include all of the original’s DLC along with some” out-of-this-world new enemies to take on and some wacky new experimental levels.”
