Australia, Melbourne, June. 21st, 2007 – After securing, and holding, the Australian record for the biggest launch of a video game system in history. Wii has now officially broken through the 100,000 install-base mark in Australia. Claiming the new title of fastest selling home console to reach 100,000.

“We are pleased that Wii has achieved this benchmark, but we are ecstatic that it attained this whilst also reaching new audiences and expanding the scope of our entire industry” explains Rose Lappin, Director of Sales and Marketing. “We promised we would bring gaming to the masses, I think this is proof that we are heading in the right direction”.

At an SRP of just $399.95, the Wii package includes one wireless Wii Remote controller, one Nunchuk controller and the groundbreaking collection of five different Wii Sports games on one disc, which anyone can play using simple movements, experienced or not. “Wii Sports is still performing very well as a primary vehicle to encourage non-gamers towards trying out the Wii experience” says Lappin.

The Wii recently witnessed the release of its first Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection title, Mario Strikers Charged Football. Upon it’s first week of launch, this game rose to the #1 spot out of all games across all platforms. Players climb the rankings boards as they compete to the region they are playing in. Players are matched up with opponents of similar skill levels through a rankings-based matchmaking system.

More mature players will also get there fix on July 5th, with the release of Resident Evil™ 4 Wii edition. Capcom’s pulse-pounding games makes great use of the Wii Remote functionality to help players aim directly at the screen when shooting and battle there way through fearsome environments.

On July 19th, the world’s enormously popular party video game is getting a lot crazier in Mario Party 8. Whether you’re shaking up cola cans or lassoing barrels, you and your friends will be drawn into the action like never before using the Wii Remote.

We are also please to confirm that Super Paper Mario will be hitting Australian shores in September. Like a story ripped from the pages of a paperback novel, Mario has the ability to switch between a 2-D and 3-D perspective. With the motion-sensitive and pointing abilities of the Wii Remote, this first Mario game for Wii delivers the goods. September will also see the release of PANGYA! Golf with Style, which lets players experience fantasy golf with real swings!
