The Wii U has just turned two years old, having launched in the US on November 18, Europe November 30, and Japan December 8 in 2012.

The latest sales figures from Japan are a nicely timed reminder that the system is selling reasonably well, particularly in Nintendo’s homeland. With just over 2 million sales now clocked up there, the worldwide total is about 7.6 million.

The Wii U sold over 300,000 units in Japan in its first month, with a smaller but steady number every week since then. There have been spikes during periods of big games releases, like Mario Kart 8, and with Super Smash Bros. Wii U about to launch in Japan, we can’t wait to see what happens there next.

So happy birthday, Wii U. We look forward to a great holiday season, and even stronger sales through 2015.
