The total sales figures for Japan have been released for the Wii and the PS3.  The Wii is in the lead by more than double what the PS3 has sold:

According to numbers the site uses (from Enterbrain, the publisher of Famitsu), the Wii has sold more than twice as many units as the PlayStation 3 so far. As many as 1,950,000 pieces of Wii hardware have passed to eager consumers’ hands since releasing in Japan on 2nd December, 2006. In comparison, after launching at a much higher price on 11th November, 2006, Sony’s next generation platform has only passed through 812,000 units. These numbers are accurate as of 25th March, 2007.

It’s going to be increasingly harder for the PS3 to catch up, if sales continue like this.
