Amiibo launching in card form this year
Amiibo figurines can be extremely hard to find at particular retailers, and even after pre-ordering your favorites, previously launched figurines may be considered extinct in some areas. Well, that is until now. Pure Nintendo recently reported a series of Iwata discussions which detailed information regarding Nintendo’s financial results briefing, covering topics like Amiibo, hardware sales and the future of Wii U and 3DS titles. But what was most intriguing was the confirmation of select Amiibo returning in the form of cards and better yet, launching this year.
Unsure as to how this might work? Think of the AR cards you initially received when you first purchased your Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo fans first caught wind of the speculation when it was mentioned by Nintendo Producer, Shigeru Miyamoto, during a conversational interview with the Associated Press sometime last year.
What are your thoughts on Amiibo returning in the form of AR cards? Feel free to let us know in the comment section below.

I don’t think Nintendo gets it with amiibo. No one cares or hardly anyone even knows these things are used with video games. They want their cheap plastic statue.
Apparently Nintendo forgot about the failure of the AR cards.

To the writer of this article: Just a small correction, the 3DS doesn’t come with NFC cards, but with AR Cards. Probably a typo, but worth noting nonetheless.

Thank you so much for catching that for me. The article has been updated with the corrections made.

I am disappointed that the Amiibo production was so limited. I mean in my area some stores did not even get some of the Amiibo in. I am also kind of mad about how too many retailers did nothing to stop people from buying out the entire stock. I know that personally I wanted the Amiibo for both use in the game as well as to have the statue. I am not too excited for the cards, but I guess I will have to settle. My guess is that it will be sold as a mystery pack.

I really hope they aren’t mystery packs. There would probably be 50 Mario cards for every Marth.

I know what you mean but I could see it being that way as an effort to try to stop people from buying all of one card and also to boost sales. I don’t know it was just a guess.

Marth value went down when they announced abother print run

The cards are a good option for people who want to keep their Amiibo packages mint, but still want access to game content. I imagine the cards will be inexpensive.
I’ve opened all of my 20+ Amiibo, but if the cards are cheap I might buy them too just to collect.

I agree with you about the cards, I thought about doing that too, I just wish I could have been able to get some of the Amiibo that are now sold out.
