Happy New Year, dear readers! And, for those in Europe, it’s time to reveal the first line of releases heading to the eShop for 2016.

The year starts with a solid list of releases, including some great Virtual Console releases, a couple of innovative Wii U titles, and the usual slew of discounts.

Check out the full list below and let us know which titles will be among your first downloads for 2016.

Wii U eShop

  • Temple of Yog (CHUDHUD Industries, €5.99 / £3.99) – an exclusive to the Wii U eShop, here players will fight their way through and explore procedurally generated areas. You must guide your “tribute” through various challenges, with regular switches between a Light world on the TV and Shadow world on the GamePad. The game will release content in chunks (called ‘Epochs’) and those who buy early will pay the initial price and get all additional content releases for free.
  • PictoParty (Retroid Interactive, €7.99 / £7.00) – remember Pictionary? Here is a virtual equivalent, with the GamePad serving as your sketchpad while everyone guesses by looking at the TV. We thought the game was decent in our PictoParty review.

Wii U Virtual Console

  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) – this was the first home console entry in the ‘New’ series of 2D Mario platformers, hitting the Wii in 2009. It was hugely successful at the time, introducing the fun and chaotic experience of four-player co-op play. Along with new powerups and some great level design, this also makes it the best entry in the “New” series.
  • Drill Dozer (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29) – this 2005 Game Boy Advance game never actually came to Europe, so this comes as a bit of a treat for the region. The game is a colorful platformer in which you drill your way through levels in your quest to retrieve a stolen diamond.
