Nintendo Not So Green
We always seem to post on the Good of Nintendo, but with the good comes the bad. As you may remember Nintendo was stated to have one of the Greenest consoles. Using the least amount of energy to power the Wii. Which made Al Gore happy. With this years Greenpeace’s “Guide to Greener Electronics.” Nintendo fell a little short, actually way short, they where the first company to get all zeros, now Al Gore is sad:
We first released our ‘Guide to Greener Electronics’ in August 2006. The guide ranks the 18 top manufacturers of personal computers, mobile phones, TV’s and games consoles according to their policies on toxic chemicals and recycling.
The sixth issue of the Guide has been expanded to include televisions and game consoles. Market leaders Microsoft, Nintendo, Philips and Sharp enter at the bottom of the ranking of environmental performance with Nintendo being the first company scoring zero out of a possible 10 points. Philips and Microsoft performed little better, scoring only 2 and 2.7, respectively. Sony Ericsson has taken over the top spot from Nokia while Samsung and Sony have surged ahead to now occupy second and third positions.

That’s too bad they gave them a zero, but I downloaded the “why.” And it looks like part of the reason they scored so bad was because they didn’t have the information. For over half of the things they rank on it said “no information.” So, it may not be as bad as Greenpeace is saying right now. And like Greenpeace said, “[It is] allowing infinite room for future improvement.” That doesn’t sound all bad.

Things may look bad now, but Nintendo’s next big hit after Wiifit is Wiicycle. The game comes with a small recycling bin and can even incorporate Mii’s as well as all the the Nintendo favorites. The game will be huge in Japan, thus starting a recycling surge. The game will slowly gain strengh here in the States and Finally Al Gore Will be happy. Nintendo have your back in this fight against Waste.
