Introducing Theo Brown: A Humble Opinion- iPhone vs DS Gaming
Editor Note
Let me introduce our newest member to the purenintendo crew, Theo Brown. Kevin and I have known Theo for a few years now and I am sure he will be a big part of our world domination. Theo is a hard core Nintendo and movie fan. He brings his fresh ideas and skills in cinematography to the table already full of greatness. I am excited to see what Theo has in-store for all of us. For now, enjoy his first thoughts.
So, here at Pure Nintendo we attempt to find out new stuff about, well, Nintendo. Like my mom when she found out I was getting black eyes by older girls, we too don’t take too kindly when people make fun of Nintendo. So, before James, Justin, and Kevin pull me back into my cage, I would like to give my own, humble opinion, about how I feel about the iPhone owners telling me that the DS is a way of the past, and how their gaming experience is superior.
Really iPhoners? (Yes, I just made that up. And trademarked it.) Better gaming? Lets be honest here, you don’t even have any buttons. And no, mashing the general area of a screen doesn’t count. Of course, you can always shake the phone like your some sort of seizureing idiot. If that’s what gaming is to you, just buy some strobe lights or watch Pokémon. Hmm, convulsing on the ground? Yep, looks like the same “experience” to me.
And more game selection? I’d have an easier time trying to explain the difference between the colors green and emerald to Stevie Wonder than find an actual good game on the iPhone. It’s funny, you iphoners need to keep buying little apps that do the EXACT SAME THING, while I, on the other hand, have kept Mario Kart in my DSi for the past 11,394 years, and still haven’t gotten tired of it.
Face it iPhoners, the iPhone isn’t even a gaming system. If so, then my old Nokia would trounce it. One word- Snake. That’s all I needed, not these futile attempts to get me shake and tilt my phone uncontrollably in public, only for parents to shield small children from me. Look, the DS is going 3D, the iPhone, well, calling it an actual phone is a stretch. Now, if you excuse me, I’m going to go play some Tap Tap Revenge-er- Scribblenauts. Yea, that’s it. Scribblenauts.

This is an issue very near and dear to me, especially as Apple keeps drawing comparisons between the iPhone/iPod Touch and the DS in their media briefings. I am and always will be a Nintendo fan at the core. I definitely have plenty of bias towards them, but that’s just because I genuinely believe in their creativity as game designers. Nintendo is still the only game company that makes both hardware and software, so I will always support them over a company like Apple. Apple especially irritates me when they compare their library of ‘entertainment’ titles to the library of the DS. You’re really going to compare 11,000 “entertainment” titles, which probably range from adult entertainment all the way down to doorbell apps for all we know, to Nintendo DS’s 2,000 or so games?? Really Apple?
And just like you said Theo, there really aren’t that many good or even mediocre games on the iPhone. People always mention Fieldrunners or Tap Tap Revenge as the ‘good’ games, but these are glorified cell phone games and nothing more. Sorry Apple, Nintendo’s already got the best games and franchises so not matter what, you’ll never be able to compare any of your “games” to what Nintendo has been doing for years, which is make real games! *bucks at Apple* :)
I just really feel strongly about this, and that’s why I don’t have any paid or unpaid games on my iPhone for this very reason. I gladly carry both my DS and iPhone wherever I go because I know the DS will always, always give me a better gaming experience than a phone.

I would like to note for all those reading out there, we are not just bashing iphones with out trying it. Both Justin and Theo have iphones, in-fact everyone has one at purenintendo except for me, and that may change soon.
