This is the first time the Street Fighter character has made an appearance in Super Smash Bros. and was last seen on a Nintendo platform in 2011’s Tatsunoko VS. Capcom on Wii.  Nintendo seems to have invested quite a lot of work into the Street Fighter Icon, as his move-set can be very dependent on command inputs.  If you’re a fan of the Street Fighter series, then you’ll be familiar with Ryu’s ground rules.  Ryu will have strong or weak attacks depending on how long you press the button; tap for a weak attack, but hold for a stronger attack.  Signiture moves, such as the Hadoken and Shoryuken will be even stronger if you use the Street-Fighter button combo, rather than the standard special attack input.

After taking leave during Smash Bros Brawl, Fire Emblem’s Roy also makes a return to Nintendo’s hit fighting series.  Nintendo has also taken the Ike route and buffed up Roy a bit more, both in appearance and in power.  Smash veterans may remember that Roy’s power comes when you hit closer to the base of his sword, so you’ll need to get in close to do some damage.

If you jump onto the Nintendo eShop right now, you can download Roy and Lucas for $3.99 ($4.99 for the WiiU/3DS package).  Ryu will be a pricier $5.99, but he comes packaged with a new stage ($6.99 for the Wii U/3DS package).
