IGN: So the first big question for the Nintendo side of thing then is “Is it all in there?” Are players getting the same core features for online, offline, DLC, and song selection? If not, what’s missing, or what has needed to be tweaked?

Karthik: Yep, the Wii version is at full feature parity with the 360/PS3 version. We’ve massively overhauled the engine. The graphics engine has been totally reworked with an all-new lighting model. It’s a massive leap from what you’ve seen in any music game on Wii before. We had a pretty solid online implementation last year with World Tour, but this year we tore it down to its foundation and re-architected it. Last year’s game supported eight players online, but it was limited to two Wii’s connected online. We now support up to eight systems for online multiplayer. It was a feature that the core gamers on Wii really wanted, and the team was pretty passionate about making it happen for this year.

Karthik: So the big surprise this year for Wii gamers is our Wii-DS connectivity. We have taken the approach of creating a “Guitar Hero Nintendo Ecosystem” between Wii and DS platforms. To kick things off, we’ve created two very special modes – a Stage Show Manager/music video creator for Mii Freestyle using your DS – and also for a whole new game experience called Roadie Battle.

IGN: We say it every year, but we’ll ask again: Any DS connectivity or cross-console plans? And while we’re on the subject, how is Nintendo when you approach them about the concept of linking the two games (or systems) together?

Fans of roleplaying and strategic games, who are interested in round based fighting systems, should keep the name Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes in mind.

The German developer studio Silent Dreams is working on a tactical RPG for PC Digital and WiiWareTM, that should be released in the fourth quarter of this year.

Story

The young recruit Drake failed at the military academy exam. He was refused to fight for his proud kingdom Glory.  Humiliated and frustrated he wants to end his life by jumping into the throat of brutal mushrooms. But then he learns that he’s not the only one disappointed and that there are others who can’t go on with their lives. He comes across the last depressed remains of the kingdom’s army which return badly injured from an all or nothing battle. The very battle Drake couldn’t fight in. One of the survivors is the most popular hero of all mankind: Holy Avatar. The arrogant knight in shiny armor tells you how a suddenly appearing sect crushed the whole kingdoms’ army. The land Glory is overrun by creatures of the Dark Church and what’s even worse, HE, the mighty Holy Avatar, was beaten the first time in his life.

When we were discussing what type of game we should be making, it was round about the time of the Wii launch, and we were so excited by it as a platform. We immediately latched onto first-person shooters, because we just thought the device would be well suited to it. And we got really excited about games like Red Steel when we saw the potential of them. Then when we got them in our hands and they were a bit disappointing for us. This really resolved our decision to go with a first-person shooter, because game after game was coming out and there was more casual… well, games that weren’t catered towards us. – Eric Nofsinger, High Voltage

Red Steel wasn’t a bad game, and not a very good game. For a luanch game I was kind of pleased with it.
