Take-Two Interactive Software’s Board Rejects Electronic Arts’ Unsolicited Proposal As Inadequate

By  •  February 25, 2008

New York, NY – February 24, 2008 -The Board of Directors of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO) today confirmed that it has received an unsolicited proposal from Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) to acquire Take-Two for $26.00 per share in cash. Take-Two’s Board of Directors has thoroughly reviewed EA’s unsolicited proposal with the assistance of its independent financial and legal advisors and concluded that the proposal is inadequate in multiple respects and not in the best interests of Take-Two’s stockholders.

After careful evaluation, the Board has determined that EA’s proposal substantially undervalues Take-Two’s robust and enviable stable of game franchises, exceptional creative talent and strong consumer loyalty. We believe EA’s unsolicited offer is highly opportunistic and is attempting to take advantage of our upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto IV, one of the most valuable and durable franchises in the industry. Furthermore, the offer values the Company at a significant discount to its public peers and does not compensate Take-Two for its intrinsic value and the substantial synergies that the proposed combination would create.

NINTENDO ASKS U.S. TO ADDRESS VIDEO GAME PIRACY PROBLEMS WORLDWIDE

By  •  February 14, 2008

Nintendo Calls Out China, Korea, Brazil, Hong Kong, Paraguay, Mexico

REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 14, 2008 – Nintendo of America Inc. has asked the U.S. Trade Representative to encourage specific governments around the world to take a more aggressive stance to combat piracy of Nintendo video games and systems. Nintendo filed its comments under a “Special 301” process, in which the U.S. Trade Representative solicits input from the public to underscore specific areas of concern.

While China remains the primary source of manufacturing pirated Nintendo DS™ and Wii™ games, Korea has emerged as the leader in distributing illegal game files via the Internet. Despite aggressive anti-piracy actions taken by Nintendo, Brazil and Mexico remain saturated with counterfeit Nintendo software. Meanwhile, Paraguay and Hong Kong continue to serve as major transshipment points for global distribution of illegal goods.

David Jaffe – Rachet and Clank was better than Super Mario Galaxy

By  •  January 25, 2008

GS: And what do you think of the place of, like, you know, like the PlayStation 3 in this market, or, you know, how do you think that that market’s evolving? Do you, I mean, obviously, you know, you still have a great relationship with Sony, and you’re talking about that being your main focus, so it seems clear to me that you believe in it.

DJ: You mean consoles in general, or the PlayStation 3?

GS
: Well, you know, I guess… both. Either.

DJ: Huh. Well I love the PlayStation 3. I mean, I have a Wii, I barely play it — not because I don’t like it or appreciate it, I just, you know, it’s not my cup of tea at the moment. Mario Galaxy, I thought was pretty cool. I’ve got to be honest: I didn’t think that it was as good as Ratchet. I didn’t get the huge big deal over it; I thought it was a really good Mario game, but I wasn’t like, “Oh my God, it’s Mario 64!” I’m totally in the minority in that.

Of course, I like my Wii; I love my 360, I think the 360’s awesome; I really do love the PlayStation 3, though, and I was really excited to hear some journalists talking recently about the new Burnout. With Burnout, if you really want to play Burnout the way it’s supposed to be played, play it on the PlayStation 3.

And I think now we’re just starting to see the idea that the PS3 is going to be capable of ultimately being the best system out there, in terms of delivering the best games and the best performance. And, you know, I love the fact that Blu-ray seems to be doing really well, and seems to be winning the format war. So I’m a big fan of the PlayStation 3.

Of course I wish it was a little less costly, I wish it had a bigger market share, but I think all that is just to come. I don’t look at the situation and think that it’s: “Where it is now is where it’s going to be.” I ultimately see it being pretty close to ahead, if not totally ahead, in terms of Xbox, in terms of market share when all the dust settles. I’m a big fan.

Ubisoft reports 2007-08 third quarter sales (casual game success, more casual titles coming)

By  •  January 23, 2008

• Third Quarter Sales Up 44 Percent to €450 ($625.81) Million, Outstripping Forecasts

• In 2007 Ubisoft Moves up to the Position of Third Leading Independent Publisher (In Europe and North America, Excluding Asia)

• Two New Franchises Created – Assassin’s Creed(TM) and Imagine(TM)

• 2007-08 Title Release Schedule Updated

• 2007-08 Targets Revised Upwards and Sales Guidance Raised for 2008-09

Paris, January 23, 2008 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, reported its sales for the third fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2007.

Sales

Sales for the third quarter of 2007-08 came to €450 ($625.81) million, up 44.4 percent, or 50.1 percent at constant exchange rates, compared with the €311 ($432.50) million recorded for the same period of 2006-07. Sales for the first nine months of fiscal 2007-08 totaled €711 ($988.78) million versus €483 ($671.70) million in the corresponding period of 2006-07, representing an increase of 47.2 percent, or 52.1 percent at constant exchange rates.

Third-quarter sales outstripped the guidance that was raised to €410 ($570.18) million on December 13, 2007. This very good performance was fueled primarily by the following elements:

• A further exceptional showing from Assassin’s Creed. In Europe, this was the best-selling game in 2007 for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the number 2 best-seller for the Xbox360(TM) system. In the United States, it was the second best-selling game in 2007 for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the number 3 best-seller for the Xbox360(TM) system (in units, based on data issued by market research firms such as NPD, Chart-Track, Nielsen and GFK).

• Excellent sales levels reported by our casual games including Fashion Designer, Babyz® and Animal Doctor for the Imagine series; Horsez®, Hamsterz(TM) and Catz® for the Petz® series; and My Word Coach from the My Coach series.

Games for new-generation consoles represented 84 percent of the Group’s sales in the first nine months of 2007-08, versus 55 percent for the equivalent period of 2006-07.
